Treatment guide
LED / light therapy
What it is
LED treatment exposes the skin to selected wavelengths of light. The aim depends on the device and setting, such as supporting an acne treatment plan. It does not exfoliate the skin.

What to expect
- Skin is cleaned and your medicines and light sensitivity are checked.
- You wear the eye protection specified for the device and rest beneath a panel or mask for a timed session.
How it feels
Usually comfortable, with mild warmth. Bright light can feel intense even with eye protection; speak up if uncomfortable.
Downtime
LED alone usually needs no time away from work. Temporary redness or irritation is possible. Recovery from a peel or needling treatment combined with it still applies.
Results
When you might see a change. Any useful change generally requires repeated sessions over weeks. A brighter look immediately afterwards does not prove a lasting treatment effect.
How long it might last. There is no reliable single duration across devices and concerns. Benefits, if seen, may fade when sessions stop.
How often?
Often offered as a short course, sometimes several sessions weekly. Ask for the device-specific schedule and review point before buying a course; maintenance is optional and response-dependent.
Before your appointment
- Tell the clinic about light-sensitive conditions and all medicines.
- Ask whether skincare needs to be removed before treatment.
Aftercare
- Resume your usual gentle routine unless LED accompanied another procedure.
- Contact the clinic if irritation persists; keep using sun protection.
Is it right for everyone?
Light sensitivity, some medicines and eye conditions require assessment. Check device advice for pregnancy and any history of skin cancer.
Common reasons people book
- An addition to an agreed acne plan
- A needle-free appointment
What your practitioner will confirm
The practitioner selects the wavelength, dose and eye protection. Evidence for one device or condition does not establish benefits for all LED facials.
Treatment details are a general guide. Your practitioner will confirm what is suitable for you, the exact treatment plan and aftercare.
