HIFU / Ultherapy

Treatment guide

HIFU / Ultherapy

What it is

Focused ultrasound heats selected tissue beneath the skin, usually to address mild looseness around the face or neck. Ultherapy uses a particular imaging-guided system; other HIFU devices are not equivalent.

Appointment
30–90 minutes, depending on area
Downtime
Often little visible recovery; tenderness possible
Results
Usually assessed after 2–3 months
Typical course
Often one session, then review

Assessment comes first. Ask about suitability and recovery, and give yourself time to consider the options before booking a procedure.

Your appointment, explained

What to expect
  1. The practitioner assesses the area, checks previous procedures and marks a treatment plan.
  2. Gel and a handpiece deliver pulses in sections. Ultherapy also uses ultrasound imaging to select tissue layers.

How it feels

Deep prickling, aching or sharp heat pulses. Discomfort can be significant; agree pain relief beforehand.

Downtime

Redness may settle quickly, but swelling, tenderness or tingling can last longer. Many people return to work promptly; allow flexibility if your face feels sore or looks swollen.

Results

When you might see a change. Changes usually develop over 2–3 months and may continue later. A same-day change is not a reliable measure.

How long it might last. Ultherapy studies and manufacturer information describe persistence around a year in some patients. This cannot be promised for every person or other HIFU system.

How often?

Often one session followed by review after a few months. Repeat only after reassessment; annual treatment is not automatically necessary.

Before your appointment
  • Tell the practitioner about implants, fillers, threads and previous surgery.
  • Ask how their device and treatment area affect pain and risks.
Aftercare
  • Keep skincare comfortable and follow the clinic’s advice about heat and activity.
  • Report persistent altered sensation, weakness, burns or increasing pain.
Is it right for everyone?

Open wounds, active skin disease and implants in the area require assessment. Burns, nerve effects and unwanted tissue changes are possible; significant laxity may need a different approach.

Common reasons people book
  • Mild jawline or neck looseness
  • Discussing non-surgical options
What your practitioner will confirm

Imaging, depth and device selection belong to the clinician. A generic HIFU booking must not imply it uses Ultherapy.

Treatment details are a general guide. Your practitioner will confirm what is suitable for you, the exact treatment plan and aftercare.
